Canada’s developmental squad coasted to a 66 run victory over Cayman Islands in the first match of the ICC America’s Division 1 T20 tournament in Florida.
A quickfire 40 (30 balls) from Khushroo Wadia broke Canada out of an early funk and helped push the young Canadians to a total of 130-8 in 20 overs. Wadia’s knock was supported by captain Jimmy Hansra (27 off 19 balls) and Usman Limbada (23 off 20 balls).
In reply, Canada’s spinners strangled the Cayman batsmen and led by Zahid Hussain (4-7) held Cayman to 66-7 from 20 overs.
Canada takes on Argentina on Tuesday at 530pm eastern time.
The ICC America’s T20 tournament will serve as a regional qualifier for the upcomign 2012 ICC T20 Cricket World Cup Qualifier. The top 2 teams from this tournament will move on to the world qualifier in Dubai in March, 2012. Canada by virtue of being a top 6 ICC High Performance Country has already qualified for the Dubai event.
