Canada had a busy and successful day in the Americas 20-20 in Bermuda. They beat USA by 7 wickets in their first match of the day and demolished Argentina in the afternoon. Canada top their group and will play the second placed team in the other group in the semi final tomorrow.
Canada made a good start against the USA, with Hooper striking in the 2nd over, and yorking Nadkarni to break a useful 3rd wicket partnership. Two wickets fell in the 11th over, the first to a run out from his own bowling by Bhatti. USA made 125 from their 20 overs. Both Canadian openers fell in the first two overs, leaving Canada at a precarious 10/2. Zubin Surkari led Canada’s reply, with a well paced innings. The run rate was faltering until 19 runs came off the 15th over, and Canada ran out easy winners in the 17th over.
Khurram Chohan’s three early wickets rocked Argentina, and they only lasted 15 overs, making just 66. Cheema got the chase off to a rapid start, making 25 out of a 28 run opening partnership. Surkari retired hurt with a shoulder problem, but a 9 wicket win was completed in just 6 overs – this match was not a 20-20 but a 15-6!
