Cricket is suddenly hotter than a pepper-packed samosa….Women’s cricket, too, is making inroads.
And there are plenty of Island connections to that rise with Kim Coulter and Joanna White of Victoria part of the Canadian national team that defeated Argentina on Friday to qualify for today’s final at the Americas regional qualifier in the Cayman Islands. The tournament will help decide teams for the ICC 2014 Twenty-Twenty women’s World Cup in Bangladesh.
Canada plays the United States today. Both sides are 4-0 and today’s winner will advance to next year’s final round of ICC World Cup qualifying for Bangladesh 2014.
White scored a 99 not-out – the highest score ever for a Canadian female player in an international – earlier in the week in a victory over the host Cayman Islanders.
