National League underway

Canada’s National Cricket League is underway at Maple Leaf Cricket Club, King City.
The Pacific Edge beat the Eastern Fury by 3 wickets in a low-scoring game, and the Western Stallions lost to the Prairie Fire by 49 runs.

Rizwan Cheema won the toss for the Eastern Fury and elected to bat against the Pacific Edge on the north-east pitch. Cheema was caught at wide long-on after striking four sixes in his 28. Dutta made a useful 22, but then Masood ran through the middle order, taking four wickets for 33. Sangha polished off the tail and the Fury mustered just 85. Pacific Edge were made to fight for the win, Rehan top scoring with an unbeaten 22 as they were at one point 70/7. Gunasekera bowled 10 overs for 15 runs and 2 wickets, Dutta took three wickets, and Newfoundland and Labrador representative Kathir Chenthilnathan made his mark with a couple of catches and a run out.

Khurram Chohan won the toss for the Western Stallions against the Prairie Fire, who lost two wickets in the opening over, the first being a runout. A third wicket was soon lost, and a couple of catching chances went begging, but Trevin Bastiampillai led a recovery making 76. He was well supported by Matharu (30). Prairie Fire made 180 in 43.4 overs, Desai (3), Broadhurst (2), Bashir (2) and Tahir sharing the wickets. Aurka led the reply with 31 but Junaid Siddiqui struck with four wickets and the Stallions were bowled out for 131.
