From a Government of Canada media release:_
“On behalf of the Honourable Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport), Paul Calandra, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Canadian Heritage and Member of Parliament (Oak Ridges-Markham), today announced the Government of Canada’s 2012-2013 contribution to Cricket Canada on the occasion of the National T20 Cricket Canada Championships. Cricket Canada is the national sport organization representing players, coaches and officials nationwide and overseeing programs for men’s and women’s cricket. “Our Government appreciates the work of Cricket Canada to grow and develop the game in this country,” said Minister of State Gosal. “Last year, more than 20,000 children played cricket in both school and community-based development programs. As an avid cricket fan, I look forward to the advancement of the sport here in Canada and congratulate Cricket Canada on its success.” Sport Canada’s funding will support a range of items including operations, team programs, and development and promotional activities.
“Today’s announcement couldn’t come at a better time as the National T20 Cricket Canada Championships begin in King City,” said Mr. Calandra. “As the single largest contributor to sport in Canada, our Government is pleased to support national sport organizations, like Cricket Canada, to further enhance the Canadian sport system from playground to podium.”
