The Windward Islands Under-19’s reached a match winning 148 for four wickets with a six by Tarryck Gabriels from the first ball of the 37th over at the Kensington Oval. The win gave the Windward Islands six points which, when added to 4.5 bonus points after taking nine Leeward Islanders’ wickets blew the Windward Islands into first place in the WICB Under-19 Regional Championship; one point ahead of Guyana.
Final points (from 6 matches) were: Windward Islands 35.0; Guyana 34.0; Jamaica 27.5; Barbados 21.5; Trinidad & Tobago 13.5; ICC Americas 13.5; and Leeward Islands 8.0.
There might be some rousing discussions from partizans within and beyond the Caribbean region on the value of a win compared with the bowling bonus points. Guyana had four wins and the Windward Islands three wins, but bowling bonus points carried the Windwards to the title. Or why there was no half bonus point for the tenth wicket when some might feel taking all ten wickets is worthy of an extra bonus, rather than the maximum coming from taking nine wickets!
