Teachers and the Ontario government can’t bowl over cricket-crazed students in Peel. Taking matters into their own hands, a group of students is launching its own cricket league.
And they’re using the ongoing contract dispute between the province and teachers — which has led to the loss of many extracurriculars — as an educational opportunity.
“Students in the business department are putting together a business plan and getting sponsorships; computer students have created the website (peelcricketleague.zzl.org); visual arts and media arts students designed the logo and website; and fashion tech students are doing the jerseys,” explains RamGanesh Ragupathy.
