The 2013 CIMA Mayor’s School Cricket Tournament is set for an official launch in the Peel Region this coming Wednesday (April 24). The event, being hosted at the Brampton City Hall, will mark the expansion of the tournament into the Peel Region. The region also includes the neighbouring city of Mississauga.
Brampton’s Mayor, Susan Fennell, is due to be on hand for this launch as will representatives from the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), CIBC and the Region of Peel Secondary Schools Athletic Association (ROPSSAA). Student cricketers and school coaches as well as some other local dignitaries will be on hand for the launch.
Mention of ROPSSAA provides the chance to update the progress of the Peel Region Senior Boys indoor cricket round robin phase, including the results of matches played on Friday April 19, 2013.
The North Division, which includes schools in Brampton, is headed by North Park with 6 points (Won 3, Lost 0) followed by three teams on 4 points (each with a record of W 2, L1) who are Heart Lake, Louise Arbour and Turner Fenton. Three teams are on 2 points (W 1, L2), namely David Suzuki, Harold M. Brathwaite and Sandalwood, and St Margaret d’Youville are left with no points from three losses.
The South Division, which embraces Mississauga, is headed by Our Lady of Mount Carmel with eight points (W 4, L1), followed by unbeaten Stephen Lewis on six points (W 3, L 0). There are five teams on four points: Applewood (W 2, L3), Clarkson (W 2, L 2), Father Goetz (W 2, L 3), Mentor College (W 2, L2) and St Francis Xavier (W 2, L2). The last two teams in the current South Division standings are Glenforest with two points (W 1, L2) and St Joseph with no points (W 0, L3).
The 2013 CIMA Mayor’s School Cricket tournament continues to include schools in the City of Toronto but is expanding into the Peel Region, supported by next Wednesday’s promotional launch, and also the York Region where schools in Markham are expected to be signing-up to compete. (EN)
