Bur Oak Secondary School, the current York Region Athletic Association (YRAA) cricket champions, won the inaugural York Region Senior Boys CIBC Trophy on Wednesday (May 8) at Markham’s Fairtree Park. This was the first time the CIMA Mayor’s Schools cricket championship moved into the regions surrounding the City of Toronto. It will soon be followed by 2013 championships events in two cities in the Peel Region, Brampton and Mississauga.
Bur Oak, as current YRAA champion, was seeded into the second phase of Wednesday’s CIBC Trophy. A 26 run win against Milliken Mills High School took Bur Oak into the Final where the opposition was Middlefield Collegiate Institute.
Middlefield beat Milliken Mills by nine wickets to reach the Final. Bur Oak then limited Middlefield to 47 for six wickets from ten overs, and raced to a ten wicket win during the sixth over. Siddhanth Shekkar lead the way with 38 not out in the Final after scoring 47 not out against Milliken Mills.

Game 3: Stephen Lewis 70 for four wickets (10 overs; Amar 18*) beat Bayview 12 all out (? overs) by 58 runs
[Note: Stephen Lewis total had been announced as 70 for three after nine overs and as 88 for four after ten overs. Last over included one wicket and at least 18 runs from a brief video review – a run taken from a wide would make it 19. But scoring from earlier overs not reviewed due to time constraints.]
Game 4: Bur Oak 79 for two wickets (10 overs; Siddhanth Shekkar 47*, Meet Patel 18) beat Milliken Mills 53 all out (10 overs) by 26 runs
Game 5: Milliken Mills 61 for four wickets (10 overs; Senthuran Thevarajan 24, Gunraj Singh 17) lost to Middlefield 65 for 1 (5.5 overs: Ali Siddiqui 23*)
FINAL (Game 6): Middlefield 49 for six wickets (10 overs; Arushan Arulnamby three wickets for 12) lost to Bur Oak 54 for no wicket (7.4 overs: Siddhanth Shekkar 38)
