Green expansion in Nova Scotia’s 2013 Halifax League

The Green team has been added to Nova Scotia’s Halifax league, so the 2013 cricket season will involve four teams: Halifax Blue, Halifax Gold, Halifax Green and Halifax Red, according to the Nova Scotia Cricket Association’s website (novascotiacricket.com). The Nova Scotia Cricket Association has also initiated the “Bedford Youth Program” to bring youth into the local cricket scene through Tuesday evening coaching and playing experiences.

Player registration for this season’s Halifax Leauge closed at the end of April and the composition of the four squads was released on May 10. Amit Joshi will captain Halifax Green and Shailendra Rao has been named team manager. Tushar Sehgal will act as both captain and team manager for Halifax Blue. Halifax Gold will have Matt Webb as captain and Richard MacMichael as team manager. Yash Gugle is to captain Halifax Red with Dinesh Gaddam serving as team manager.
The new cricket program “Bedford Youth Program” for youth in the Halifax region began on April 16. The program involves Tuesday evening cricket sessions for youths at the Bedford Basin View school gymnasium. The sessions are scheduled between 6pm and 8pm each Tuesday from April 16 until June. One hour will be devoted to skills and coaching, followed by “one hour of fun and active variations of cricket games designed to keep kids involved.”
Ashke won the 2012-2013 Halifax Indoor Cricket league on March 16, beating Renegades in semi-final action and then Gunners in the Final. Savneet Singh Arora was named MVP for Gunners. Yash Gugle was named MVP for Gunners, who beat Tigers in the semi-finals. Eight teams competing in this winter’s indoor league.
