Canada and UAE Squads named for ICC Pepsi WCL and ICC Intercontinental Cup games

The squads for the sixth round of the ICC Pepsi World Cricket League (WCL) and ICC Intercontinental were released on Thursday (July 25 ) by the ICC. Canada hosts the United Arab Emirates in this round. The UAE is in contention for second position in the World Cricket League, but Canada is not. In order to qualify for the ICC Cricket World Cup, Canada will need to capture one of the two spots available in the 2014 ICC World Cup Qualifier in New Zealand.

ICC Pepsi WCL Championship
The top two sides from the World Cricket League (WCL) Championship qualify directly for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, which is to be to be held in Australia and New Zealand. Ireland seized the first qualification spot after a dramatic tie against the Netherlands in the previous round of matches. This leaves four sides – Scotland, Netherlands, Afghanistan, and UAE – with the potential to claim the critical second position.
The bottom six teams from the WCL Championship will receive a second chance to qualify at next year’s ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier in New Zealand, when they lock horns with Hong Kong, Nepal, Papua New Guinea and Uganda for the final two spots in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015.

Canada will host sixth-placed United Arab Emirates (UAE) for two WCL Championship 50-over matches on 6 and 8 August at Maple Leaf, Toronto, an encounter that UAE must win to keep itself in contention for a top-two finish.
