Victoria International Six-a-Side Cricket Festival (Times Colonist)

Six-a-side cricket on tap at Beacon Hill, Windsor Park- Brian Drewry
Starting this weekend there will be a definite international flavour at Beacon Hill Park in Victoria and Windsor Park in Oak Bay. The 2010 Victoria International Six-a-Side Cricket Festival runs from Saturday through Aug. 7 with teams from Australia, England, New Zealand, Italy, the United States and Canada coming to the Island to play in the shortened, fast-paced version of cricket. While traditional cricket is played by teams of 11 players and matches can take from a few hours to a few days to complete, the six-a-side version of the sport is a modified version which uses fewer players, takes less time and produces a lot of spectacular action. This year’s festival features 14 teams and will have five games a day played at both parks from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Round-robin play takes place from Saturday to Aug. 4, with the playoff round slated for Aug. 6 and 7. Admission is free.
