BC Club Championship (Tomalin Cup) scheduled for Saturday

The Upper Brockton ground in Vancouver’s Stanley Park is due to host the Tomalin Cup match – the British Columbia Cricket Championship – this coming Saturday (September 21, 2013). The match is between Salim Akbar, winners of the British Columbia Mainland Cricket League’s (BCMCL) Elite Division, and Alcos B, winners of the Victoria and District Cricket Association’s (VDCA) weekend league.
Salim Akbar beat Abbotsford by one wicket in BCMCL semi-final action, then beat Richmond by 33 runs in the Final. Richmond reached the final thanks to a seven wicket win against Meraloma.
Alcos B topped the standings in the VDCA’s weekend league and went on to do the double of winning the playoffs. In the VDCA semi-finals Alcos B beat Alcos A, who placed fourth in the league, by six wickets while second placed United Victoria beat third-placed Albion by five wickets. Albion’s total of 121 all out included a last wicket stand of 57. Alcos B tallied 215 all out from 45 overs in the final then bowled out United Victoria for 127. So Alcos B won this VDCA Championship game by 88 runs.

The VDCA mid-week championship was won by Pig’s Trotters thanks to a better net run rate for the season compared with Metchosin. Both teams won 13 games and lost two games. Pig’s Trotters thus captured the Billingham Bowl for the third consecutive time. However, Spinnakers, who came third in the midweek regular season, beat Pig’s Trotters in the mid-week knock-out cup. The round-up about the mid-week league league noted sponsors provided door prizes for the awards ceremony.
