Canada’s hopes of WCT20 qualification look increasingly remote after they lost to UAE by 36 runs. UAE batted first, making 159/8 from their 20 overs, with al of their top six bats reacing double figures, led by Mohammed Azam’s 36. Baidwan was the pick of the bowlers with 4/24. Canada yet again got off to a poor start with Hamza Tariq making a duck.Gunasekera (20) and Bagai took the score to 36 before Gunasekera was lefg before, and then Hansra only lasted 2 balls. Bagai made 43 but by the time he was out Canada needed 13 runs/ over, and despite a quick 30 from Daesrath they fell well short.
Canada now have just one win from 5 matches but wins over Namibia and Italy in their final two matches may yet see them finish in the top 5 and earn an opportunity to qualify in the play-offs.
