The third annual Cricket New Brunswick Snow Cricket Festival takes place this Saturday (February 8, 2014) at the Loyalist Rugby and Cricket Club, Fredericton, New Brunswick. The event is an offical part of this year’s Fredericton FROSTival schedule, according to the Cricket NB website.
The tournament is expected to feature 16 teams playing six-a-side games that each last about half-an-hour. Various prizes are to be awarded to the tournament winners, the team with the best name, the best costumes and other attributes. The proceeds from the event, which is to include a silent auction and a 50/50 draw, will be used to support the Cricket NB develpment and operational cricket program.
The snow cricket schedule in Eastern Canada continues on Saturday February 15 with an event in Nova Scotia. The Nova Scotia Cricket Association’s website provides more details about next weekend’s snow cricket.
Perhaps a major campaign should be started to make snow cricket part of the Winter Olympic Games. There are less sports involved in the Winter Olympics compared with the battles to be admitted to, or re-instated in, the Summer Olympics. (EN)
