he Nova Scotia Snow Cricket Championship has had to be postponed until February 22nd as a result of a rise in temperature that made the field slushy during the day. Ground conditions would turn to ice with a fall in temperatures. The event was due to be played this Saturday (Feb 15) The Annapolis County Cricket Club’s has posted the following on facebook:
“We have just done a walk of the fields and we will unfortunately be required to postpone the NS Snow Cricket Championships until February 22. The fields are mostly slush at this point and will turn to skating rinks as the colder weather sets in tonight. Safety is our first concern. We apologise for any problems this may cause.”
The inaugural Nova Scotia Snow Cricket championship was scheduled for this coming Saturday (February 15, 2014) at the Annapolis West Education Centre field, Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia. It is being organized by the newly founded Annapolis County Cricket Club. The club has just received formal approval as a not-for-profit society. Play is expected to start at 10am, according to the Club’s facebook page.
It is well worth taking a look at what began as the invitation for teams to register for this snow championship on the Nova Scotia Cricket Association’s official website and check out the various links associated with Saturday’s event. One link takes you to an article about the event, that follows the trail of a poster for the Bear River Winter Carnival (Feb 14-16) and a chance to participate in Sunday’s BRRR River 5km fun run and walk.
A different link reaches an article about the Nova Scota Snow Cricket published on NovaNewsNow.com, while the link to the Annapolis County Cricket Club leads to the club’s facebook page. The facebook page includes news that Annapolis Home Hardware and Digby Subway are sponsors for the Snow Cricket and provides links to the photo galleries for the recent snow cricket events of Cricket New Brunswick and the Pirates of the St Lawrence. Some planned outdoor practices had to be called off due to snow storms, so an indoor practice was due on Wednesday (Feb 12). Let’s hope for appropriate weather on Saturday to help launch this new event on the Nova Scotia Cricket calendar.
