A national senior cricket coach is expected to be in place in the next few weeks. There were 12 applicants for the advertised position vacant since Gus Logie was fired last December after the Canadian team failed to qualify for the International Cricket Council (ICC) Twenty/20 World Cup which Sri Lanka lifted last April. Nottinghamshire’s bowling coach Andy Pick guided the national side that took part in the ICC World Cup qualifier in New Zealand last January. Canada finished eighth in the 10-team tournament. A total of three applicants from the Greater Toronto Area – one of them has coached the senior team before – will be interviewed for the position in the next few days. Ingleton Liburd and two Cricket Canada executive members will conduct the interviews. The successful applicant will be signed for nine months. “The contract could be extended based on the coach’s and team’s performance in that period,” said Liburd.
