The closing ceremonies for the 2014 Under-17 Canada Cup tournament on Friday at Centennial Park, Etobicoke, Ontario included the presentation of overall playing awards on behalf of Cricket Canada and on behalf of the Cricket Council of Ontario plus the individual Man-of-the-Match awards for each game in the tournament.
Three players shared the Cricket Canada award for taking most wickets in the tournament: Saskatchewan’s Rommel Ahmad (combined provinces team), Shlok Patel (Ontario Greens) and Akash Gill (Ontario Greens). Abraash Khan (Ontario Reds) picked up the Cricket Canada fielding award for most catches, Thursaanth (“Shan”) Anantharajan’s (Ontario Reds) success with the bat brought him the award for most runs from Cricket Canada and the Cricket Council of Ontario batting award.
Shan Anantharajan was also named as a member of the 2014 CIMA/RBC Cricket Across the Pond touring party at a launch in Toronto last Thursday. The program of the CIMA Mayor’s Trophy held at Sunnybrook Park at the end of June had included the twelve selected for the tour.
Cricket Council of Ontario awards were also presented to Akash Gill (Ontario Greens) for his all-round contributions and the wicketkeeping award went to Ravis Kamath (Ontario Reds)
