Atlantic Canada updates

The recently formed Annapolis County Cricket Club in Nova Scotia’s Annapolis valley enjoyed a weekend tour to Prince Edward Island between September 12 and 14, 2014. The club is looking forward to returning the favour of hosting PEI next season, and give public thanks to Cricket PEI for hosting the tourists via Facebook.

The major element in this developmental tour was to gain some experience from cricket and meeting other cricketers. One of the comments on the Annapolis club’s facebook page reads: “Unfortunately, it seems that our combined ability to bat left PEI somewhat before we physically left the Island. No matter, we had a great weekend and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.”

The tourists played two games against PEI at Tea Hill Park, Stratford. The youngest tourist, a ten-year old, scored two runs in the opening game of the tour played last Saturday. Perhaps this was an early step or two on the path to scoring a century or double-century by the time he may rise, hopefully with some of his school friends, in junior representative cricket for Nova Scotia? But whatever happens, the Annapolis tourists enjoyed this opportunity and have posted a range of photos from the weekend on the club’s Facebook page.

The University of New Brunswick won Cricket New Brunswick’s T20 final in Fredericton last Saturday (September 13) according to a posting on facebook by the Fredericton Cricket Club. Fredericton, the 2013 T20 champions, “lost a close one” but report spirits remained high despite this loss. Fredericton CC has only been in existence for a couple of years.

Cricket New Brunswick was announced as the expected host for the 2015 Atlantic T20 championship during the closing ceremonies of this year’ tournament in PEI. Hopefully some resources can be found to help promote cricket around the time of next year’s championship. Publicity that could bring awareness that the tournament exists and visibility to the sport would be good for the current sponsors of Cricket NB and could attract new sponsors. Publicity from a successful Atlantic T20 championship might also spark interest about cricket in the neighbouring provinces. Publicity from an Atlantic T20 event might help the Annapolis club’s aim of “Growing the Game”.in western Nova Scotia. (EN)
