Sunday’s (Sept 28, 2014) Toronto & District Elite Final will see Brampton Masters Tranzac play Centurions, winners of last weekend’s first semi-final. Masters beat Limers Lords by nine wickets on Saturday in the second semi-final. Limers Lords lost early wickets to pace bowling, then lost wickets to the left-arm spin of Hiral Patel in stumbling to 39 all out. Patel took 4/4 from 6.1 overs, picked up two catches and hit a quick 16 runs. Ravundu Gunasekera made 21* in Masters 40/1 from 3.5 overs.

Delorn Johnson took 2/9 from 6 overs, Jevon Searles 2/10 from 4 overs and Jeremy Gordon 1/16 from 4 overs in what proved a disappointing playoff series for Limers Lords. Limers lost heavily in both semi-finals and played one short.in both games. Jeffery Woolcock was Limers top scorer on Saturday with just 9 runs .

The promising aspect of these Elite Division playoffs is that the weather was good on Saturday and is due to remain favourable on Sunday. Hopefully supporters will turn out for both teams at Maple Leaf Cricket Club on Sunday. The game is scheduled to start at 11am.

The final of the TDCA Premier Division is also due to be played at Maple Leaf CC on Sunday. Mississauga Ramblers bowled out Toronto CC for 108 then scored a winning 109/2 in about 25 overs to reach the Premier final. Victoria Park scored 184 against Vikings. Vikings reached 47/3 after 14 overs and lost a couple more wickets as I watched from a distance. Vikings seemed in need of some solid batting to turn that game around but had quite a few overs to transform the game.

Certainly Vikings had a better chance of changing the course of that semi-final than the chance that any regular service York Region bus would be stopping at the nearby bus stops to the south of the ground on 15th Sideroad this Sunday.

But, perhaps, next summer a Sunday bus service might serve Maple Leaf Cricket Club, .Some enthusiasts might need to make special arrangements to attend Sunday’s big game which others may miss. Let’s hope for a good game between two teams with plenty of cricketing talent, some of whom are likely to be playing for Canada in the important World Cricket League Division 2 soon after 2015 begins.
