YRAA Schools Cricket Underway

Middlefield top Zone A of the York Region Athletic Association’s (YRAA) outdoor 2015-2016 Varsity Boys Tier 1 cricket championship with 2 wins from 2 games. Pierre Elliott Trudeau stands 2/0 at the top of Zone B.

Middlefield opened with a win against Woodbridge College (142 to 65) then beat Bur Oak (108 to 89). Bur Oak beat both Bill Crothers (99 to 41) and Huron Heights (41 to 40) but are 2/1 due to the loss to Middlefield. Bill Crothers are 1/1 after beating Woodbridge College (45 to 43) this past week. Huron Heights 0/1 and Woodbridge College 0/2 have yet to register a win this season.

Pierre Elliott Trudeau beat Father McGivney (77 to 76) in this season’s opening ground of games played on September 30, 2015 at McCowan Reservoir, Markham. Trudeau followed with a win against Richmond Hill High School (56 to 55). Maple High School beat Richmond HS (57 to 55) on opening day. Scores have not yet been registered for the Zone B games between Maple HS and Father McGivney (Oct 6) or Trudeau v Tommy Douglas Secondary School (Oct 8).

Play resumes with four games due this coming Tuesday (Oct 13) and four more matches on Wednesday (Oct 14). All games are being played at McCowan Reservoir and involve a maximum of 15 overs per innings.

Four teams will advance to the semi-finals, scheduled on October 27. The winning semi-finalists then meet in the final on October 30.
