A number of newspapers, some of which include coverage of the launch of the 2016 School Cricket Tournament at Metro Hall (Toronto), were picked up on my way home from a Sunday afternoon opening of a new Church building in Mississauga. There are between one and five photos in the event coverage included in this far from random or complete sample of what coverage of the launch may exist in the wide range of community papers in the Greater Toronto Area.

The supporting story notes CIMA Canada Chair Mr. Michael Lam’s gratitude for the support from the City of Toronto and Sport Chek, and states Sport Chek is the lead financial supporter for this year’s tournament. Some comments from Mr. Frederick Lecoq, SVP (Senior Vice President) Marketing of FGL Sports, parent company of Sport Chek, state ” We are proud to help support the Mayor’s School Cricket Tournament. As the home of sport in Canada, Sport Chek believes in connecting people through many diverse activities enabling them to live a healthy and active lifestyle.”

The picture coverage in “South Asian Generation Next” (April 21, 2016), “The Weekly Times of India” (April 22, 2016), “Hindi Abroad” (April 22, 2016) and “The Weekly Voice ” (April 22, 2016) includes either one or two photos of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic School, winners of the TCSB Middle School Award for Excellence.

“The Urdu Post” (April 21, 2016) report was supported by a picture of West Humber Collegiate Institute’s girls team that lost to George Harvey CI in the 2015 Girls High School final for the CIBC Trophy. A picture also included in “South Asian Generation Next”.

As a partial identity guide for those checking out the print media coverage, photos of Blessed Sacrament and West Humber girls have been included as support for this review. Some, if not all, of the print coverage can be found on the websites of these newspapers. The on-line article in the “community” section of “The Weekly Voice” (www.weeklyvoice.com) included five photos when originally posted.
