Cricket Canada media release: Match 1 – Canada XI vs. Delhi XI
Canada has lost its first tour match against a Delhi XI (Manish Warriors) at LB Shastri Cricket Ground in Delhi today. Winning the toss and batting first Canada put up 219 for 8 in the 45 over match. The match was shortened due to poor light conditions expected later in the day. Zubin Surkari (65) and Ashish Bagai (64) shared a third wicket stand of 132 runs as Canada recovered from 20-2 to pace Canada’s total. Despite a positive start Canada collapsed from 152-2 to 152-6 and then 165-7 as the middle order folded. The tail however wagged led by Harvir Baidwan (25*) and Balaji Rao (19) who carried Canada to 219. In reply Delhi XI got off to a positive start but Canada’s spinners as well as some sharp fielding held them back. Hiral Patel (2-15), Akshay Bagai (2-40) and Balaji Rao (2-40) picked up a pair of wickets each and the fielders accounted for a pair of run outs as Canada picked up 9 Delhi wickets before the hosts slipped by in the penultimate over.
