Canadian internationals Rizwan Cheema and Hamza Tariq blitzed 185 runs from 14.3 overs in the quarter-finals of the Cricket Council of the USA 2016 Open at Central Broward Regional Park, Florida on Saturday (Nov 26, 2016). Their opening stand set Houston Stallions on course to a massive win over Falcons. Hamza Tariq was out first, caught for 64 runs scored off 36 balls, and Rizwan Cheema fell two balls later for 122 struck from 53 balls. Cheema’s dismissal brought in Dikshanshu Negi who thumped 51* from 20 balls as Houston Stallions reached the heady heights of 264/6 from 20 overs.
This target proved far too much for Falcons who stumbled to 74 all out after 14.5 overs. Falcons had won the toss and elected to field.
Riwan Cheema’s 122 was based on 12 boundaries and 9 sixes. Hamza Tariq struck 5 fours and 3 sixes in his 64. Both Cheema and Tariq were caught off the bowling of Abishek Shah who closed with 5 wickets for 42 runs from 4 overs.
Negi and Naraganan Prasad each took 3 wickets for 10 runs in Falcons innings. Trinidad and Tobago’s Samuel Badree bowled very economically when Falcons batted, taking 1 for 4 from 3 overs. Canada’s Nikhil Dutta took 1/12 from 2 overs.
Houston Stallions face Al-Masafi in Sunday’s first semi-final. US All-Stars meet India Lions in the second semi-final.
