Scarborough Cricket Association Season Underway

Two Centuries and Some Washouts in Cricket’s 2020 Emergence

The first weekend of August 2020 saw the opening of Ontario’s Scarborough Cricket Association’s season with matches played in each of the Elite, Premier, First, Second, Third and T20 leagues. Some teams struggled following the lack of cricket due to the Covid-19 pandemic emergency whilst the wait to play cricket continued for some teams due to rain washing out several matches without a ball bowled. Individual honours included were centuries from Matthew Nandu for Kaieteur International Sports Club B and Andrew Rugixshan for Maple/Skanda.

In the First Division, promising junior cricketer Matthew Nandu hit 146 run from 150 balls for Kaieteur International SC B in a 152 run win against Durham (Monday, August 3, 2020). Matthew’s innings included 14 fours and 3 sixes. , Matthew Nandu and Arjuna Sekhu (30) added 90 runs for the second wicket. Matthew’s brother, Marcus Nandu, produced the second highest individual score with 35* batting at number 4. Kaieteur rattled up 312/3 from 46.5 overs then bowled out Durham for 160 after 37 overs. Nigel Ramsaroop took 4/19 from 6.1 overs.

The other century maker was opening bat Andrew Rugixshan who struck 111 from 80 balls (5x6s, 8x4s) for Maple/Skanda in a Second Division game against Ajax/Scarborough Kingz C (Monday, August 3, 2020). Faced by this imposing total, the Kingz stumbled to 38 all out after 18.4 overs. Maple/Skanda captain Ratnam Rakulan took 5/14 from 5.4 overs.

In the only Elite Division match where a ball was bowled, Danforth Dynamites failed to live up to their name when bowled out for 122 runs after 32 of a potential 50 overs (Saturday, August 1, 2020). Ambassadors Sports Club fired a winning 124/4 from 22.2 overs. Ajax/Scarborough Kingz A gained a forfeit win against Island Warriors while the game between Victoria Park and Highland Creek was washed out. (EN)
