St. John’s Superkings win Newfoundland and Labrador Cricket Association Championship Final

St John's Superkings

The Superkings beat the Thunderbolts in a thrilling cup-final on another superb sunny day at Torbay field. The Thunderbolts found batting hard on a pitch that had variable bounce and totalled 102 for 9 from their 20 overs. Nagesh as usual bowled well giving up just 10 runs in his four overs and Rakesh took three wickets in his final over to register figures of 4/18. Suriya and Kathir both batted well to help take the total into three figures.

A target of 103 didn’t seem enough given the strong performances by the Superkings this season, but some excellent spin bowling by Shameem and Kathir had them at 49/4 after 10 overs. Sentill was top-scorer of the match with 20, but wickets continued to fall. The match remanined in the balance until the last over, when number 10 bat Manveer struck a four over cover to win the match.

Kathir was named man-of the match but the Superkings took home the NLCA Cup, as well as the league trophy. Nagesh was named bowler of the tournament , K. Kulkarni top batsman and Kavish top player for his sensational batting and excellent bowling.
