George Harvey CI recently won both the senior and junior boys indoor cricket championships in the Toronto District School Board sports program. George Harvey beat North Albion CI in both finals. North Albion scored 47 for three wickets (6 overs) in the Junior Final but George Harvey reached a winning 48 for one wicket with 5 balls to spare. George Harvey also took the Senior Final batting second and with five balls to spare: North Albion 55 for three wickets (6 overs); George Harvey 56 for one wicket (5.1 overs).
The indoor cricket currently involves schools in the west region of the city. Ten teams from nine schools competed in the Senior boys event. Nine teams from seven schools played in the junior boys competition. In the junior semi-finals, the George Havey’s A team met and beat the George Hatvey B team, whilst North Albion A team beat North Albion B in the other semi-final.
Despite the new CIMA Toronto Mayors Schools cricket competition for the CIBC trophy, the original TDSB outdoor cricket competition continues. However, participation now involves only teams from the Toronto east region. The regular season in this outdoor event wraps up on Tuesday (May 22nd) with quarter-finals due on Thursday (May 24th).
