Schools Cricket Outdoors in York and Indoors in Peel

Wednesday (May 8, 2013) sees schools cricket being played outdoors in York Region and indoors in the neighbouring Peel Region. Fairtree Community Park in Markham is the venue for the inaugural outdoor CIMA Mayor’s Schools cricket championship for York Region Schools. Current York Region Athletic Association cricket champions Bur Oak will be hoping to capture the CIBC Trophy, with challenges from losing YRAA finalist Milliken Mills and three other schools.
The semi-finals of the senior boys indoor cricket championship for the Region of Peel Senior Schools Athletic Association are scheduled for Wednesday afternoon. Our Lady of Mount Carmel, runners-up in the South Division will visit North Division winners Louise Arbour.  South Division winners Stephen Lewis will host North Park, who placed second in the North Division. The winners will meet at Sandalwood in the Final on Friday (May 10).
All four semi-finalists in the Peel Region indoor championships have entered either the Mississauga or Brampton CIMA Mayor’s schools cricket outdoor championships. The overall final of the CIMA Mayor’s Schools cricket championships are scheduled for Sunnybrook Park, Toronto on June 1st. The York, Mississauga and Brampton champions will be joined by the champions from the City of Toronto qualifying competition.
York Region CIMA Mayor’s Trophy 2013
The five competing schools in the CIMA Mayor’s School cricket championship for the York Region in Markham are: Milliken Mills HS, Bayview, Millfield CI, Stephen Lewis CI (York Region) and Bur Oak SS. The opening game, in a championship comprising games of 10 overs per side, is scheduled for an 8am start with the Final due at 4pm.
The Mayor of Markham, Mr. Frank Scarpitti, is expected to be at the tournament at 11am.

Indoor Peel Region Semi-finalists entered in CIMA Mayor’s Trophy Qualifiers
All four senior boys semi-finalists in the Peel Region indoor cricket championship will soon be in action in the CIMA Mayor’s Trophy qualifying events in Peel Region.
Louise Arbour and North Park are entrants in the Brampton section of the CIMA Mayor’s Trophy 2013 that is being played for the CIBC Trophy. Stephen Lewis and Our Lady of Mount Carmel will compete in the Mississauga section of the CIMA Mayor’s Trophy.
The Brampton section of the CIMA Mayor’s trophy lists Louise Arbour, North Park, Central Peel, David Suzuki, Harold M. Brathwaite, Heart Lake, Sandalwood Heights and Turner Fenton as participants.
The Mississauga section of the CIMA Mayor’s trophy lists Stephen Lewis, Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Applewood Heights, Father Michael Goetz, Glenforest, Lincoln M. Alexander, Port Credit, St. Francis Xavier, St Joseph Secondary, T. L. Kennedy and West Credit as participants.
It appears there will be a couple of girls teams competing in the CIMA Mayor’s championships in Peel Region in addition to a significant number of senior boys school teams. The overall CIMA Mayor’s Championships include senior and middle-school boys competition and a senior girls school competition. As previously mentioned, the overall Greater Toronto Area championships will be contested on June 1, 2013 at Sunnybrook Park, Toronto.
