The University of Victoria won the Victoria and District Cricket Association’s 2012 Universities Tournament that was held around Canada Day last year. The University of Victoria was unbeaten in three round robin matches before beating the University of the Fraser Valley by six wickets in the tournament Final at Beacon Hill Park. The University of the Fraser Valley had beaten the University of Calgary by one wicket in a high-scoring encounter on July 2nd in what proved to be the battle for second place in the round robin standings.
In the final, Ahmed Iqbal scored 52 for Fraser Valley, but Victoria’s Zeya ul Islam took five wickets for just 18 runs. Bowling that reduce the Fraser Valley side to 112 all out after 18.3 overs. Opening bat Lachlan Ross scored 42, which helped the University of Victoria to a championship winning 116 for four wickets after 16.2 overs.
Lachlan Ross scored an even century against Kwatien Polytechnic University. The University of Calgary’s Hafiz Khurram Abbas scored 103 in the loss to the University of the Fraser Valley.
So a tournament mentioned last summer has now received some recognition as having been successfully completed. A recap of the results, showing including individual performance highlights, now follows.
