The Maritimes 40-over Championship is now underway thanks to Nova Scotia’s nine wicket win over New Brunswick on Saturday (August 10) in Halifax, Nova Scotia. A previously scheduled game in Fredericton involving these sides had to be postponed due to heavy rains and flooding on the eve of the game, and attempts by New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island to play in this competition have also been hit by wet weather.
Tushar Sehgal dismissed two of the top three New Brunswick batsmen in the order and Vivek Reddy had opening bat Amil Chowdhury caught for 7 to leave New Brunswick struggling on 14 for three wickets in the eighth over. Matt Webb chipped in with two wickets as NB struggled to 39 for five near the end of the 18th over. Daksh Talwar then took three wickets for eight runs from four overs, including the wicket of top-scorer Akram Khan. Khan was caught by Matt Lee after scoring 24 runs from 46 balls. This innings included three boundaries. Vivkek Reddy returned to pick up the last two wickets. Reddy bowled Rasai Rabbi to end the New Brunswick batting with 77 on the board in the 34th over. Rabbi made 11 runs, including one boundary.
Sajjad Asgar soon had Matt Lee caught for 3, but opener Shreyas Dhond notched 19 not out from 34 balls, including one boundary, and Man-of-the-Match Harikrishnan Raghuraman hit 49 not out from 35 balls, hitting five sixes and one four in Nova Scotia’s 82 for one wicket.
