The Canadian Universities and Colleges Championship managed to continue in 2013, admittedly with a limited number of teams, but included the bonus of an exhibition game between a Canada XI and a Canadian Universities and Colleges XI before Thursday’s final (September 5, 2013).
A cool and windy day, that included bright sun during the afternoon and evening, saw the Canada XI score 209 for four wickets from 20 overs. The Canadian Universities and Colleges XI replied with a respectable 147 for nine wickets. The 2013 Final of the Canadian Colleges and Universities Championship then saw Ryerson Rams beat the University of Toronto (Scarborough Campus) Rainbows by 26 runs.
Six teams participated in the 2013 Championship: Ryerson Rams, University of Toronto (Scarborough Campus) Rainbows, University of Ontario Information and Technology Ridgebacks, York University Lions, University of Waterloo Warriors and Queen’s University Athletics. The wind carried music from an opening week’s concert at the nearby Seneca College King campus across the ground during the afternoon.
Funding considerations left a choice between holding a tournament with a limited number of teams or having no 2013 Championship. So a line of Championship continuity was maintained and more details of the tournament and the exhibition game involving the Canada XI will follow in due course.
