Canada lost to Hong Kong by 53 runs, their third and highly disappointing loss, leaving only remote hopes of qualification. After Hong Kong had raced to 100 without losing a wicket, Canada did well to restrict them to 168/5. Canada were never in the hunt, however, falling well behind the required run rate early and making just 115.
Hong Kong batted first and got off to a quick start, taking 22 from the second over, bowled by Henry Osinde. Gordon however proved more difficult to get away, conceding just three from his first two overs. After five overs they were 46 for no wicket. Despite Bagai trying 7 bowlers, Irfan Ahmed raced to a half century and at the halfway mark Hong Kong put up three figures in 11 overs without losing a wicket. It was the eighth bowler who broke the partnership when Patel caught Barkat off his own bowling. He followed this with a second wicket, having Atkinson caught by Baidwan but Ahmed seemed unstoppable, heading into the nineties with his 7th and 8th six in the 16th over. He made exactly 100 (out of 154, 53 balls, 8×6, 4×4) before he was bowled by Baidwan, and Gordon helped restrict the flow of runs by having Khan caught by Hansra. A run-out kept them in check and the final total of 168/5 represented a good come back by Canada.
Canada made a more measured start, losing Gunasekera, stumped in the fourth over, and then Cheema – 26/2 after 6 overs. Canada fell well behind the required run rate and with 6 overs to go required over 14 runs/ over. Wickets continued to fall and Canada fell well short on 115/8.
