Canada play favourites Ireland in their second match of the T20 world Cup qualifier. Baidwan and Hansra each took two wickets but Ireland scored 66 from the last six overs to post a challenging total of 168/5. Canada lost Patel and Cheema from the first two balls of their innings. Bagai and Gunasekera staged a recovery and after 10 overs Canada were in with a chance overs on 78/2. Gunasekera reached his half-century with a pull over square leg for six, and at that point needed 55 runs from six overs. He made an excellent 65 before he lofted a catch to long-on- 125/3. Bagai reached his fifty from the next ball. Hansra and Bagai ran well between the wickets but couldn’t find the ropes and with three overs left Canada needed 34. Some brilliant fielding prevented two well hit reverse sweeps from Bagai reaching the boundary, but Canada took 10 off the 18th over. Ireland seemed to have the situation under control but then an overthrow and a lovely cover drive for four left Canada needing 14 from the last over with Bagai on strike. After Bagai scrambled a single, Hansra smashed the third ball straight for six. A single from the fifth ball left Canada needing a boundary from the last ball.
