Cricket fans want more World Cup events in Toronto (Toronto Star)

Jillian Kestler-D’Amours writes:
Enthusiasm is building across Toronto for the 2015 Cricket World Cup, after about 1,000 fans packed Mississauga’s Hershey Centre to watch India take on Pakistan last Saturday.
But the tournament schedule — most matches only begin late at night local time — has made organizing and attending public viewings difficult for some fans.
“I think most people would be watching at home,” said Aparna Mishra, executive director of the Valley Park Go Green Cricket field project, which provides cricket lessons for youth aged 7-19 from Thorncliffe Park and Flemingdon Park.
The group organized a free screening of the India-Pakistan match at Valley Park school in Thorncliffe Park. Mishra said about 1,000 people turned out to watch India win by76 runs.
“The passion is there,” Mishra said. “The Cricket World Cup gets the youth all excited. They connect. They watch their parents [and] their older siblings following the game and they also develop that interest.”
