Mayor’s Trophy GTA Playoffs in Brampton Today

The Greater Toronto Area playoffs in the CIMA Mayor’s School Cricket Championship, sponsored by Sport Chek in association with Canadian Tire, take place at Batsman Park, Brampton today (Saturday June 4, 2016). The playoffs, as available via the CIMA Canada website, include Boys/Males and Girls/Females finals for Middle Schools and High Schools/Senior Schools.

The Middle Schools finals are scheduled to begin at 8am when Sunny View’s boys (Brampton) play Tomken (Mississauga) and Sunny Views girls (Brampton) play Dr. Marion Hilliard (Toronto). The Girls High Schools final between St Joseph (Mississauga) and York Memorial (Toronto) follows at 9.15am.

The Boys High Schools competition has six schools participating in today’s playoffs, so the teams have been divided into two groups of three. Woburn (Toronto East), Rick Hansen (Mississauga) and Middlefield (York Region) are drawn in one group. Louise Arbour (Brampton), J. Clarke Richardson (Durham) and P.E. Trudeau (York) are in the other group. It is not specified whether just the top team from each group will qualify for the GTA Final, or if the top two will meet in cross-over semi-finals before the GTA Final.

J. Clarke Richardson may be the first school from the Durham Region to qualify for the GTA Playoffs, unless a Durham school qualified last year. Richardson won the Durham Region Final, played at Ajax Cricket Club. In the Durham Region Final, J. Clarke Richardson (2 wins, 1 loss) reversed a round-robin stage loss to Pine Ridge (3 wins, 0 losses).

Sunny View’s boys and girls teams qualified through the North Peel Middle Schools cricket championships.
