Alberta Women’s squad for 2016 Western Women’s Championship

The Alberta Squad to play in the 2016 Western Women Cricket Championship at Victoria Park, Edmonton, Alberta on July 16 and 17 was recently announced. The Fort McMurray Women Cricket facebook pages were pleased to disclose that four Fort McMurray players were in the Alberta squad, including the Alberta vice-captain Harshini Chowdry. Zarfishan Waqar was named Alberta captain.

The Western Women’s Cricket Championship will involve matches between Alberta and British Columbia, according to information from Fort McMurray sources.

Alberta Women’s squad: Zarfishan Waqar (captain), Harshini Chowdry (vice-captain), Divya Saxena, Carlene Botha, Zeenat Afzal, Malika Ali, Jenna Bartholomew, Sarah Pervaiz, Savneet Kandola, Zara Chohan, Omaima Waqar, Mahrukh Pasha, Saima Rizwan, Faryal Munir and Sheila Valiente.

Standby players: Shivalika Katyal, Riyan Varghese and Ayushi Anand.

Team Manager: Salman Naseer.

The Fort McMurray contingent in the selected players comprises vice-captain Harshini Chowdry, Saima Rizwan and Shiela Valiente in the main squad plus one of the standby players, Riyan Varghese.

The Alberta Women’s Cricket League managed to start this year despite the challenges faced by those whose homes have been in the Fort McMurray area. League games have been taking place in Edmonton. The new league has four teams, two representing Fort McMurray plus one team representing Edmonton and one team representing Calgary. (EN)
