Cricket Canada seeks nominations for HP camp

Cricket Canada has announced on its website that it is seeking nominations for a high performance camp to be held over a two week period in late July and early August. Players are being sought in two age categories: those born on or before September 1st 1998, and after. The latter group would be age-eligible for the national U19 team. A “a leading and globally known coach” is expected be in charge of the camp.

The camp’s criteria of having been a permanent resident for at least 4 years and never having represented Canada before suggest talent identification is the objective ahead of player development. This likely makes the endeavor unprecedented in Cricket Canada’s history in terms of its intention, duration and effort. Whether it represents a changing attitude to player development on the part of the national body and ICC Americas remains to be seen.

The deadline for nominations is July 1st.
