Toronto, June 25, 2016: The day after the announcement of the RBC CIMA Mayor’s Cricket Across the Pond team of young cricketers that will visit Trinidad and Tobago in August 2016, it was time for the annual CIMA Canada “Celebration of Cricket” event at Toronto’s Sunnybrook Park.

Toronto Mayor John Tory was on hand to launch the day’s cricket festival and opened the batting for the Public Sector Mayor’s XI against the Private Sector CEO’s XI. Federal MP Adam Vaughan hit some early boundaries that helped the Public Sector XI to victory. Phillip Crawley, CEO of the Globe and Mail, captained the Private Sector XI, then went off to lead the Globe & Mail XI in the quest for the CIMA Media Trophy. There was a separate CIMA Accountant’s Trophy and a mix of teams contest the CIMA Mayor’s Trophy.

Players in the 2016 Cricket Across the Pond squad were added to some of the participating teams on a sunny day at Sunnybrook Park. The north ground can be regarded as the showcase ground. It was used, with grass wickets, for some matches in the 2001 ICC Trophy and was used for a first-class status ICC Intercontinental Cup match between Canada and Bermuda.
