Nets are opened!

On July 14, the Cricket NL nets were formally opened by the Deputy Mayor of St. John’s, Ron Ellsworth, and MHA Derek Bennett, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Child, Youth and Family Services. The event was well attended by Cricket NL members, and both Ron Ellsworth and Derek Bennett showed considerable ability with the bat when venturing to try the game. Nets construction and acquisition of a Nottsport Powerplay pitch system were supported by grants from the City of St. John’s and the provincial government. Nets construction was actually completed in May, and the nets have been in daily use since then. The Nottsport pitch has been used in the Summer League and is provinig a greatly improved playing surface for both batsmen and bowlers.
