Bill Crothers Secondary School and Pierre Elliott Trudeau High School will contest the York Region Athletic Association’s Varsity Boys Tier 1 2013-2014 outdoor cricket final this Thursday, October 17, at Markham, Ontario’s Fairtree Community Park. In last week’s semi-final matches, Bill Crothers S.S. reached 52 for nine wickets (14.3 overs) to edge past the Richmond Hill H.S. total of 51 for nine wickets (15 overs), while Pierre Elliott Trudeau H.S. beat Bur Oak S..S. by 24 runs. Pierre Elliot Trudeau scored 72 all out (14.5 overs) then limited Bur Oak to 48 for four wickets (15 overs).
The YRAA Championship Game pits the regular season Zone A winners, Bill Crothers S.S., against the Zone B winners, Pierre Elliott Trudeau C.H.S. and is scheduled for 12.15pm on Thursday. It is due to follow the playoff for third and fourth places between Richmond Hill and Bur Oak that is scheduled to start at 9.15am.
The Consolation playoffs for fifth to eighth places are now shown as scheduled for Friday, October 18, also at Fairtree Community Park. Milliken Mills H.S, who beat Jean Vanier Catholic High School by 51 runs in a Consolation semi-final last week, will play Middlefield Collegiate Institute in the game to decided fifth place at 12.15 pm. Middlefield C.I. beat Stephen Lewis S.S. by 24 runs last week.
Milliken Mills struck 95 for four wickets from 15 overs in the consolation semi-final against Jean Vanier, then bowled out the opposition for 44 in 13.3 overs. Middlefield made 76 for five from 15 overs then restricted Stephen Lewis to 52 for six from 15 overs.
This week’s Consolation playoffs are shown as taking place on Friday rather than Wednesday on the YRAA website. There are solid predictions of a 90% chance of rain for Wednesday October 16 in the Greater Toronto Area.
