Peel cricketers eye Lord’s as Toronto Mayor team to visit England

Peel region’s six young players have set their eyes on Lord’s Cricket Grounds — known as the ‘Home of Cricket’ for more than 200 years — after being selected for the Toronto Mayor’s cricket team, which is scheduled to tour London, England, from July 18 to 26.

The visit is part of the ‘Cricket Across the Pond’ program — a community initiative led by the Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation in partnership with Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).

The CAP program is designed to provide opportunities for youth from diverse neighborhoods and develop social interaction among young people through cricket.

“It’s not the best cricket team that would go and win. But instead, players have been selected based on their leadership qualities, community involvement as well as their level of cricket,” said Ranil Mendis, a volunteer board member of CIMA Canada. “The uniqueness of this program is not only the game, but it’s to engage young leaders of the community through cricket.”
