British Columbia U17 49 (29 overs) lost to Ontario U17 Red 50/4 (14.4 ov) by six wickets
Ali Irfan bowled Porge Perera for 23 to end a determined eighth wicket stand of 19 that had moved the combined Manitoba, Quebec and Saskatchewan team to within ten runs of victory against Ontairo Greens on Canada Day at Centennial Park, Etobicoke. Irfan then had new batsman Syed Muhhamed caught by Greens captain Harsh Thakkar to end the 48th over with the combined side on 98/9 chasing 106 to win. The same Irfan/Thakkar duo ended Baidar Bakht’s gritty batting effort from the first ball of the 50th over. Bakht aired the ball into the covers and Thakkar was delighted to take the catch and bring his side victory by four runs.
Porage Perera had scored 23 from 62 balls, including three boundaries, and Baidar Bakht had scored 6 runs from 30 balls, mostly during the eighth wicket partnership. Number three Sarbjot Singh scored 23 runs with two boundaries in an innings that lasted 59 balls.
Opening bowler Aran Pathmanathan took 3/10 from ten overs and his partner Akash Gill took 1/23 from 10 economical overs. Ali Irfan took 4/14 from 7.1 overs, including those three wickets in the 48th and 50th overs.
Ontario Greens top four batsmen had contributed 135 runs on Monday against British Columbia, but produced only 21 runs on Tuesday, three of the early wickets falling to the bowling of Abdul Haseeb. Nikhil P Sharma and Rahul Prabakar rallied the Greens innings from 26/5 to 80/6 in about eleven overs. Prabakar fell leg before wicket to Rommel Ahmad for 24 (80/6) and was soon followed by Sharma falling lbw to Syed Muhhamad for 28 (89/8). Ali Irfan’s lbw dismissal ended the Greens innings on 105 all out from 29 overs.
Abdul Haseeb took 3/13 from six overs, Baidar Bakht 3/17 from five overs and Syed Muhammad took 2/10 from two overs.
Ontario U17 Reds beat British Columbia U17
Ontario U17 Reds had another large win, thanks to bowling out British Columbia U17 for 49. Dhruv Bhagat, batting at eight, top scored with 11 not out and Suliman Khan made 9. Four Ontario Reds bowlers each captured two wickets. Kurt Ramdath took 2/1 from 5 overs, Harman Sidhu took 2/7 from 5 overs, Prushoth Wijayraj took 2/9 from 5 overs and Amrinder Atwal took 2/10 from 5 overs.
Arslan Khan was run out for 6 as Ontario Reds first wicket fell on 19 after 5.2 overs chasing 50 to win. Thursaanth Anatharajan was caught off Asad-ur-Rehman Razique for 13 to leave Reds on 31/2 after 7.5 overs. Two wickets fell soon after Anatharajan’s dismissal but Reds completed a win after 14.4 overs. (EN)
