Canada’s Under-19 side has qualified for the 2016 ICC Under-19 World Cup by winning the Pepsi ICC Americas Under-19 Division 1 Championship after beating the USA by 37 runs today. Canada plays Bermuda U19’s tomorrow (Saturday) in the last scheduled game of this Americas event.
Canada won the toss and batted. They got off to a poor start, losing Gill from the second ball of the match, and then Taploo with the score on 11. They continued to struggle losing their 5th wicket on 108 after 29 overs. Thaker came to the rescue with a fine century – 121 from 93 balls with 14 fours and 5 sixes, and with good contributions from the lower half of the batting line up, Canada posted the highest score of the tournament to date, 289/8.
Canada made early inroads as the US replied, Abraash Khan taking two wickets. Ganji’s 110 gave the US a chance but they fell behind the run rate, and ended 37 runs short. Abraash Khan took 5/55, and was well supported by the rest of the bowlers.
