Canada lose again

Canada remain winless at the World T20 qualifier after they lost to UAE. Canada are now bottom of the group table with games against Netherlands, Scotland and Afghanistan to come. Canada were asked to bat and posted 132/9, the batting, apart from Patel (45) and Dhaliwal (39), failing to come to terms with the UAE attack. The UAE won by five wickets in the last over.

The UAE won the toss and asked Canada to bat. Canada were off to a poor start, losing the openers from the second and 8th ball of the innings- 5/2. At that point rain stopped play. The break allowed Canada to settle, and Nitish Kumar and Hiral Patel took 45 off the next four overs, bringing up the fifty with no further loss. The UAE bowlers were then able to slow the scoring, and the pressure told as first Kumar (19) and Patel (45) were caught. Wijeratne was run out, leaving Canada 81/5 with 8 overs to bat. Dhaliwal (39*)batted well but had little support as Canada made a distinctly sub-par 132/9.
UAE made a quick start in reply, but the scoring rate slowed against the spinners. UAE looked set for an easy win on 98/3 with four overs to go, thanks to Mohammad Shahzad’s fifty, but two quick wickets put Canada back in the game. Needing twenty-four runs off the last 12 balls, the UAE bats hit Pervez for three sixes in the 19th over, putting the result beyond question.
