Americas lose in NAGICO Super50 opener

The NAGICO Super50 Tournament got underway today with the Americas squad taking on Barbados in Trinidad & Tobago. The Americas team batted first and struggled – Nitish Kumar made 25 as the Americas fell to 107/8. The USA’s Alex Amsterdam (73) led a recovery to 183 all out from 43.1 overs (Gunasekera 2, Taylor 17, Kumar 25, Wijeyeratne 9, Amsterdam 73, Dhaliwal 3, Patel 12, Allen 1, Ahmed 6, Shahid 6). In reply the Americas made Barbados work hard for the win, and with 6 wickets down and 50 needed, were in with a chance. A good partnership from Carter (50) and Greaves saw Barbados home without further incident with 10 overs to spare. The Americas should be pleased with a good bowling performance but will need more from the bats if they are to contend.

The WICB provided a preview :-
“The Americas, a pre-selected group of the best players in the Western Hemisphere outside of the WICB territories, plus eight players that advanced from a player combine held last November in the American city of Indianapolis, are an unknown force and are likely to be the cliché “banana peel” for one of the Caribbean sides.”
